Comfort that follows your schedule, every zone in one app, and a quick look at home from wherever you are this winter.

Comfort You Do Not Have to Think About

Smart thermostat installation in New Jersey is worth planning in the fall, when the heat comes on and older thermostats start showing their age. Total Home Technologies, founded in 1992 and based in Roseland, installs and programs smart thermostats and whole-house climate control for homeowners in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, and Sussex Counties. The work centers on the controls: thermostats, zones, schedules and the way climate connects with lighting and shades.

When Thermostats Cause More Trouble Than Comfort

A smart thermostat that goes blank a week after a do-it-yourself install, schedules nobody ever set, three zones with three different apps, a thermostat that never worked right with a heat pump or boiler, or one that vanished from the app after a router change are typical calls. On automated properties, the touchscreen sometimes shows a temperature that no longer matches the room.

Total Home runs a 24/7 Help Desk and offers 24/7 service plans with phone support, and service-plan customers receive priority onsite service. More detail is on the support page.

The review covers the thermostats, wiring at the thermostat, network connection and programming, including setups another company installed, and confirms compatibility with the heating and cooling equipment. Often the fix is a wiring or power correction, a firmware update or clean programming. Thermostats that still work well are kept.

Why Smart Thermostats Pay Off

Heating and cooling run all year, so small improvements in how they are controlled are felt every day.

Comfort Without Constant Adjusting

Schedules warm up the bedrooms before the alarm goes off and ease back once the whole house is empty, so nobody spends a January morning walking from thermostat to thermostat.

Check In From Anywhere

From an airport gate or the office, you can see the temperature at home or at a lake house, turn up the heat before you arrive, and know that the place isn't getting too cold.

Every Zone in One App

Upstairs, downstairs, the lower level and the addition each keep their own setting, but all of them appear together in one app instead of four different ones from four brands.

Climate in Every Scene

A goodnight scene can turn down the heat along with the lights and shades, and an away scene can set back every zone at once, so comfort follows the routines you already have.

Thermostat and Zone Options

Smart Thermostat Installation

Nest and other compatible smart thermostats replace older units on the existing wiring wherever the system allows, with power and compatibility confirmed before anything is mounted.

✓ Compatibility checked against your equipment

✓ Clean wall finish where an old thermostat was

✓ Setup on your Wi-Fi and phones

Multi-Zone Control

Larger and older homes often have several zones, sometimes added over decades. Each zone gets the right thermostat, and they are set up to work together rather than against each other.

Schedules and Away Settings

Weekday, weekend and holiday schedules are built around how the family actually lives, with away settings for vacations and empty weekday hours.

Sensors for Rooms That Run Hot or Cold

A sunroom, a bonus room over the garage or a bedroom at the end of the hall can be measured with an additional sensor where the thermostat supports one, so the setting reflects the room people actually use.

Scenes With Lighting and Shades

On Control4 and Savant systems, thermostats appear on the same touchscreens and keypads as the lights and shades. Shade control is covered on the motorized shades page, and lighting on the smart lighting page.

Working With Your HVAC Equipment

Thermostats are matched to the furnace, boiler, heat pump or air conditioning already in place, including older systems with unusual wiring.

Why Total Home for Thermostats

Fewer Steps for the Homeowner

Keith W. Harrison has long argued that one action at home should trigger the right set of events based on context such as time, occupancy and temperature, so the property behaves correctly without anyone thinking about it. Climate control is a natural place for that idea.

Controls, Not Ductwork

This is a technology firm, not a mechanical contractor. That keeps the focus where it belongs: choosing, connecting and programming the controls, and working with the HVAC professionals who maintain the equipment.

What Our Clients Say

Smart Thermostat Questions

Will a smart thermostat work with my heating system?

Most will, but not every thermostat suits every system. Heat pumps, boilers and multi-stage equipment are checked before a model is chosen.

Does a smart thermostat need a special wire?

Many need constant power, often supplied by a common wire. When one is missing, there are usually workable options, which are reviewed during the visit.

Do you repair furnaces or air conditioners?

No. Thermostats, zones and controls are the job here. Equipment repair stays with your HVAC contractor, and coordinating with them is part of the work.

How many thermostats do I need?
Usually one per heating and cooling zone. If rooms in the same zone feel very different, that is worth raising with your HVAC contractor as well.

Can I keep my current smart thermostats?

Often, yes. If they are compatible and working, they can usually be connected to the app or control system you use.

How do I start?
Tell us how many zones you have and what bothers you about the temperature now. Start the Conversation or Call (877) 550-5150.

Let's Get Every Room Comfortable

One thermostat or many zones, the work starts with a look at the equipment and how you live. Share what you want to change, and the next step is a conversation, online or by phone.
