Home Audio Installation New Jersey

Music should feel like part of the residence, not another collection of speakers and apps. Total Home Technologies designs audio systems for whole-house listening, architectural speakers, surround sound and dedicated Hi-Fi spaces.

Bergen · Passaic · Essex · Hudson · Sussex Counties

Sound Designed Around Your Home

Home audio in Northern New Jersey can be as simple as better music in the kitchen or as sophisticated as a carefully designed system throughout an entire residence. Since 1992, Total Home Technologies has helped homeowners bring music and entertainment into their spaces without letting equipment dominate the architecture.

Sonos can make everyday streaming effortless. Bowers & Wilkins, Focal, Meridian and other high-performance brands can take listening considerably further. Architectural and invisible speakers can keep technology out of sight, while dedicated two-channel systems can make the equipment itself part of the experience.

The right approach depends on the room, the architecture and how you actually listen.

Repairing, Upgrading or Taking Over an Existing Audio System

A room that drops from the app, weak patio coverage, thin TV dialogue, a silent zone, or Sonos problems after a network change can come from programming, wiring, amplification, network performance, or work left unfinished by another integrator. Total Home reviews the equipment, wiring, network and control before recommending changes, keeps reliable components when they still make sense, and can assume responsibility for an existing system when the original company is no longer the right fit.

What Homeowners Often Call About

✓ Multi-room zones that drop, delay, or refuse to group

✓ Outdoor speakers with hot spots, dead zones, or weak coverage

✓ A silent zone, a failing amplifier, or unlabeled speaker wiring

✓ Soundbars and television paths that no longer send clean dialogue

✓ Streaming or Sonos setups disrupted after a network change

✓ A project started by another integrator and never finished

When existing equipment still performs reliably, it can often remain in place. Unsupported hardware, missing programming or lost access may make selective replacement the better choice. Total Home explains that before recommending a change.

Why Home Audio Earns Its Place in the House

People across Northern New Jersey ask for whole-house audio because they want ordinary days and gatherings to sound settled without extra work.

Music Room by Room

A slow Sunday breakfast and a quiet afternoon in the study can each have their own music or share one playlist, all chosen from one app instead of several remotes or controls.

Hosting Without Chasing Volume

When guests move from the living room to the patio, each space can hold a level that suits conversation, so you stay with your guests instead of adjusting volume room by room.

Speakers That Disappear

In-ceiling, in-wall and landscape speakers can blend into the architecture and surroundings, keeping focus on the room while sound reaches the places where people gather well.

Someone to Call Later

After the work is finished, you still have someone to call when a zone drifts, a patio needs balancing, or another room should join the listening plan without a total rebuild.

Sound for Every Space In Your Home

Music is not experienced the same way in every room. Some spaces need effortless background listening, others deserve real performance, and some should keep the speakers almost invisible. Total Home designs each area around how it is used, then connects everything so moving from kitchen to patio, movie night to dedicated listening, feels natural.

Whole-Home Audio

Music should be there when you want it without turning every room into another system to manage. Sonos, Savant and Roon can make it easy to start a playlist in the kitchen, let someone else listen upstairs, or carry the same music outside when dinner moves to the patio.

The important part is not how many zones you have, it is that everyone knows how to use them.

✓ One song throughout the house or different music by room
✓ Simple control from familiar apps, keypads or touchscreens
✓ Architectural speakers that preserve clean interiors
✓ Indoor and outdoor listening that feels like one experience

Outdoor Speakers

The best outdoor audio feels even where people actually gather. Total Home plans speaker placement around patios, pools, terraces and fire pits so the music reaches the seating areas without one location becoming too loud.

Origin Acoustics, JL Audio and Sonos give us flexible options for discreet landscape sound and connected outdoor zones that can continue the music from inside.

✓ Balanced coverage across patios, pools and gathering areas
✓ Landscape speakers that blend into the property
✓ Separate zones for different listening areas
✓ Weather-ready equipment for year-round use

Surround Sound

A great movie soundtrack should pull you into the story without turning the room into an equipment display. Total Home plans speaker placement and amplification around the seating, architecture and way the space is used.

Bowers & Wilkins, Focal, Anthem, Rotel and Origin Acoustics allow us to create anything from discreet living-room surround to a more immersive media experience.

✓ Clear dialogue where you actually sit
✓ Immersive sound for movies, sports and concerts
✓ Discreet placement that respects the room
✓ Proper amplification and calibration

Soundbars

Some rooms simply need better television sound without adding speakers throughout the space. A premium soundbar can make voices easier to understand, music fuller and everyday viewing more enjoyable while keeping the room clean.

Sonos also makes it easy to connect television sound with music elsewhere in the house when that fits the way you listen.

✓ Clearer dialogue and fuller TV sound
✓ Clean appearance with minimal equipment
✓ Ideal for bedrooms, offices and guest rooms
✓ Easy connection to music and streaming

Two-Channel Hi-Fi

Some music deserves your full attention. A dedicated two-channel system is built for the moments when you want to sit down, listen and hear more of the recording.

Total Home matches speakers, amplification and sources around the room and your preferences, with brands such as Focal, Bowers & Wilkins, Meridian, Anthem, Rotel and Classé.

✓ Dedicated spaces built around listening
✓ Vinyl and high-resolution streaming
✓ Components selected to complement one another
✓ Speaker placement shaped around the room

Architectural & Custom Speakers

Good sound does not require every speaker to become part of the décor. In-ceiling and in-wall models can bring music into kitchens, bedrooms and gathering spaces while keeping attention on the architecture.

For rooms where the speaker deserves to be seen, Bowers & Wilkins, Focal and Origin Acoustics offer options ranging from discreet architectural designs to statement speakers.

✓ In-ceiling and in-wall solutions
✓ Clean options for design-sensitive rooms
✓ Bookshelf and floor-standing speakers
✓ Different solutions for different spaces

Brands Matched to the Way You Listen

The way you listen comes first. Once the rooms, speaker locations, listening zones and control plan are clear, we select the technology that best supports the experience.

Why Homeowners Bring Their Audio to Total Home

Rooted in Aerospace Engineering
Keith W. Harrison has a background in aerospace engineering and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University before launching the business that became Total Home Technologies. An engineer’s habit of measuring before deciding still shapes the work. Equipment racks are built and tested in the shop before they reach the house, and updates are tested before they are put in place. The company line "Question Everything. Then Make It Simple." describes the same idea.

Experience Since January 2, 1992
Keith opened the business on January 2, 1992, which in 2026 is 34 years. That history matters in older Northern New Jersey houses, where the walls may already hold speaker wire and equipment added over several decades. Service, upgrades, and takeovers remain part of the relationship after installation.

Industry Credentials
Total Home is a Control4 Pinnacle Dealer, with a Control4 Certified Showroom, the 2021 ProSource Member of the Year award, and a place on the CE Pro Top 100 Dealer list.

Help After the Installers Leave
The Help Desk is in-house and works with OneVision Resources. Total Home offers a 24/7 Help Desk, 24/7 service plans, and phone support, with priority onsite visits for customers on a service plan rather than a technician sent to every house at any hour.

Questions Homeowners Ask

Can you take over a home audio system another company installed?
Yes. Total Home reviews the amplifiers, speakers, wiring, network, and accounts another integrator left behind, and can take over support when the equipment still fits the house. If the hardware is unsupported or the programming cannot be recovered, replacement may be the better choice.

Does a problem mean everything must be replaced?
No. Programming, the network, zone balance, account access, and the devices themselves are reviewed before replacement is recommended. A missing room or a weak patio is not, by itself, a reason to strip the rack.

Can outdoor speakers cover a patio without hot spots?
Yes, when coverage is planned for the seats people actually use. More speakers at a comfortable level usually beat one loud pair by the house. Total Home walks the patio and sets each zone from where guests will sit.

Do you only install Sonos?
No. Sonos is one strong option for straightforward whole-home listening. Projects also use Bowers & Wilkins, Origin Acoustics, and the other approved partners when architectural speakers, outdoor coverage, surround, or higher-performance listening is the better fit.

What does 24/7 support include?
It includes the Help Desk, service plans, and phone support. Customers on a service plan get priority for onsite visits. Phone coverage at any hour is not a promise of an immediate truck.
