Know What Is Happening at Home

A home security system in New Jersey should do two plain things: give a clear view of the driveway, doors and yard, and make it easy to let the right people in. Total Home Technologies, a Roseland firm working across Northern New Jersey since 1992, designs and installs security cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, gates and intercoms for homeowners in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, and Sussex Counties. Cameras and doorbells from Ring sit alongside Control4 and Savant control, each piece planned around the property and the network that carries the video, and able to tie into an alarm system already in place.

This page is the overview for home security and surveillance. The camera and smart-access topics below each have their own page with more detail.

When Cameras and Door Gear Stop Doing Their Job

Surveillance problems tend to show up at the worst moment. A camera has been offline for weeks, night footage is a gray blur, the recorder stopped saving months ago, the doorbell takes too long to ring through, or the app login belongs to the installer who set it up. Smart locks with dying batteries and gate intercoms that no longer reach the house are common too.

Total Home runs a 24/7 Help Desk and offers 24/7 service plans with phone support, and service-plan customers receive priority onsite service. The Help Desk is in-house and works with OneVision Resources. More detail is on the support page.

Total Home reviews the cameras, recorder, door stations, locks, gate equipment and network, including systems another company installed. A weak network link or a firmware update often explains a camera that keeps dropping out. When a piece of equipment is beyond its useful life, you hear that directly. Cameras, wiring and locks that still perform stay in place.

Problems Worth a Call

What Cameras and Smart Access Add

The point is simple: see what matters, let in the people you expect, and stop wondering whether a door was left unlocked.

See Who Is at the Door

A video doorbell or door station shows you who is on the front step and lets you talk to them from the kitchen, the home office or another state, before anyone opens the door.

Holiday Deliveries in View

During the busy holiday shipping season, a camera on the porch and an alert on your phone show when packages arrive, so a box does not sit unnoticed on the step all afternoon.

Let People In From Anywhere

Unlock the side door for a dog walker or open the gate for a delivery or contractor right from your phone, then see on camera that the door relocked and the gate closed again.

Cameras Where You Already Look

With a Control4 or Savant system, live camera views and the door station appear on the TVs, touchscreens and app the household already uses, instead of another separate login.

Home Security and Surveillance Services

Most projects combine several of the areas below. Planned together, they share one network, one app and one team to call.

Surveillance Cameras

Cameras cover the driveway, entries, garage and yard, chosen for the distance and lighting at each spot so the details you care about are clear when you need them. Recording is set up so footage is easy to find and review.

✓ Coverage planned for entries, driveway and yard

✓ Night performance matched to each location

✓ Recording you can search by time and camera

Camera types and placement are covered on the security camera installation page.

Video Doorbells and Smart Locks

A video doorbell suits most front doors, while larger and gated properties often call for a door station with a clearer camera and two-way talk. Smart locks let you issue codes to family, housekeepers and contractors, see when a door was opened, and lock up from anywhere.

Doorbells, door stations and locks are covered on the smart locks and video doorbells page.

Gates and Intercoms

Driveway gates and pedestrian gates can be paired with an intercom and camera, so you can see and speak with a visitor before letting anyone through. For properties that want broader access control, such as many doors managed together, the right approach is something to talk through before design begins.

Alarm System Integration

Many properties already have an alarm panel. Where the equipment allows, cameras, locks and door stations can be integrated with it and with Control4 or Savant, so video, entry and alarm status sit in one place. See the home automation page for how control works across the house.

Remote Viewing and Alerts

Live views, recorded clips and alerts reach your phone, with alerts tuned so a passing car or swaying branch does not set off a stream of notifications.

Support

A camera that goes dark, a lock that stops reporting or a new phone that needs access is a Help Desk call, and plan customers come first when an onsite visit has to be booked.

Why Total Home for Home Security

Built on a Network That Can Carry It

Cameras are only as good as the network behind them. Total Home designs the Wi-Fi and wired network as well, so video has a reliable path and there is one team to call. The Wi-Fi networks page explains how that network is planned.

Equipment Chosen With Care

Every camera, lock and door station is researched before it is recommended, and updates are tested before they are deployed, which matters for devices that guard the front door.

What Our Clients Say

Home Security Questions

Do you provide alarm monitoring?
Monitoring is part of the planning conversation. We look at the alarm equipment in place, how cameras and alerts should connect to it, and which monitoring arrangement fits, then explain what applies to your property.

Do cameras need to be wired?
Wired cameras are the most reliable choice, and wiring is easiest during construction. In finished houses, cable can often follow attics and basements, and wireless options fill in where a wire cannot reach.

How long is footage kept?

That depends on the recorder or storage plan, the number of cameras and the recording settings. Retention is chosen during design so it fits how far back you want to look.

Will the cameras record if the internet goes down?

Cameras that record to a local recorder keep recording during an internet outage, as long as they have power. Remote viewing and phone alerts return once the connection is back.

Will my cameras see into a neighbor's yard?
Cameras are aimed at your own property, and views are adjusted at installation so they stay focused on your driveway, doors and yard.
