Home Theater NJ Installation & Des

Movie nights, game days and holiday films deserve more than a bigger screen. Total Home Technologies designs dedicated theaters and media rooms around the picture, sound, seating, lighting and control that make the room worth using.

A Better Experience Starts With the Room

A great night at home starts with the room, and a well-designed home theater makes movies, sports and concerts feel more immersive without making the space harder to use. Total Home Technologies plans private cinemas, dedicated movie rooms and flexible media spaces around the way your family actually watches, from screen size and seating to acoustics, lighting and control.

Sony projection, Bowers & Wilkins loudspeakers and Control4 are often part of the solution, but the experience comes first. The right system should fit the architecture, feel natural to operate and make every seat a good one. Since 1992, Total Home has helped Northern New Jersey homeowners create rooms that feel special when the lights go down and comfortable the rest of the time.

Fix the Theater You Already Have

A theater that came with the house, or one another company installed years ago, rarely needs to be torn apart when it starts to struggle. A dim picture, missing surround channels, buried dialogue, HDMI dropouts, uneven bass or a remote that no longer starts the room can come from one failed component, old programming, wiring or equipment that has simply reached the end of its useful life.

Total Home reviews the projector or display, speakers, rack, wiring, network and control before recommending changes. Equipment that still performs stays. When the original installer is no longer the right fit, Total Home can take responsibility for the room and bring it back under control.

✓ Picture looks dim, soft or washed out

✓ Dialogue disappears under music and effects

✓ Sources drop, flicker or lose signal

✓ The remote or app no longer starts the room

✓ Bass changes dramatically from seat to seat

✓ Nobody knows how to change the settings

The 24/7 Help Desk provides phone support, while service-plan customers receive priority onsite service when a technician is needed.

What a Private Cinema Adds to Your Home

Most theater conversations begin with time the family already spends watching together and a wish for that time to feel like more of an escape.

Game Days Worth Gathering For

Fall Sundays, playoff nights and holiday visits bring more people to the screen, and a theater gives every guest a good view and clear commentary instead of a crowd at the TV.

Dialogue You Can Follow

Speakers placed and set for the seats keep voices clear over the music and effects, so quiet scenes stay easy to hear without anyone reaching for the volume every few minutes.

A Room That Starts Itself

One button can dim the lights, lower the shades, wake the projector and start the movie, then bring the lights partway back up when someone pauses for a snack or a quick call.

Built Into the Architecture

Equipment can live in a ventilated closet or rack, and speakers can sit behind fabric or flush in the walls, so in daylight the room still reads as a normal part of the house.

A Theater Can Take More Than One Form

Some families want a dedicated room that disappears when the movie starts. Others want a bright family space that becomes cinematic at night. Total Home designs around how the room will actually be used, then brings picture, sound, lighting and control together around that decision.

Dedicated Private Cinema

A dedicated theater gives the room one clear purpose. Screen size, seating distance, speaker placement, lighting and acoustics can all be planned around the best possible viewing positions without asking the room to do something else during the day.

That freedom makes it possible to hide speakers behind fabric or an acoustically transparent screen, control light completely and shape the sound around every row instead of one favorite chair.

✓ Seating planned around clear sightlines

✓ Screen size matched to viewing distance

✓ Surround and overhead audio built around the seats

✓ Lighting that disappears when the film begins

Media Rooms & Multipurpose Spaces

Not every family wants a room that feels like a theater all day. A media room can stay bright for homework, conversation or Sunday afternoon football, then change character when the shades lower and the lights dim.

Architectural speakers, clean equipment placement and simple control keep the technology from taking over the design. For many Northern New Jersey homes, that flexibility makes a family room or finished lower level the place people use most.

✓ Bright and comfortable during the day

✓ Cinematic picture and sound when wanted

✓ Speakers that stay visually quiet

✓ One room for sports, movies, gaming and everyday life

Projectors, Screens & Large Displays

A projector is not automatically better than a large display. The right choice depends on the image size you want, how far away you sit, how much daylight enters the room and whether the space is dedicated or shared.

Sony is a primary picture partner, with JVC and Epson offering additional projection choices. In a light-controlled room, projection can create scale a television cannot easily match. In a bright family room, a large display may be the simpler and more useful answer.

✓ Picture size chosen around the room

✓ Light conditions considered before equipment

✓ Seating distance checked before screen size

✓ Kaleidescape available for a dedicated movie library

Surround & Overhead Sound

Immersive sound should make the room feel larger without making the equipment more obvious. Speaker positions are planned around the seats so dialogue stays anchored to the screen while effects move naturally beside and above the audience.

Bowers & Wilkins is a featured loudspeaker partner, with Focal, Meridian and Origin Acoustics used where they fit the room. Anthem, Rotel and Classé can provide processing and amplification.

✓ Clear dialogue from the primary seats

✓ Surround and overhead channels positioned correctly

✓ Subwoofers placed for more even bass

✓ Calibration shaped around the finished room

Seating, Sightlines & Acoustics

The best equipment cannot fix a seat with a poor view or a room that throws sound back at the listener. Seating positions, screen height and speaker locations should be considered together so each row can see comfortably and hear a balanced presentation.

Acoustic treatment and softer finishes can reduce reflections, improve dialogue and help keep more of the soundtrack inside the room. Total Home plans the room around those relationships before final equipment decisions are made.

✓ Comfortable screen height and viewing angle

✓ Clear sightlines from every planned seat

✓ Acoustic treatment where the room needs it

✓ Speaker positions coordinated with seating

Lighting, Shades & Simple Control

The easiest theater is the one everyone in the house knows how to start. Lutron lighting and shades can control the room environment, while Control4 or Savant can bring picture, sound and lighting into one simple sequence.

A movie scene can lower the shades, soften the lights and start the room. A game-day scene can keep more light on for guests. When the movie pauses, pathway lighting can return without flooding the screen.

✓ Movie, sports and daytime lighting scenes

✓ Blackout control where the room needs it

✓ Simple keypad, touchscreen or remote operation

✓ Theater control connected with the rest of the residence

What Shapes a Theater Budget

A home theater can mean anything from better surround sound in the family room to a purpose-built private cinema. The budget changes with the room, the level of performance and how much construction is involved.

Living Room Surround Sound — Under $10,000
For an existing family room, that can mean better dialogue, real surround sound, a subwoofer, concealed wiring and simple control without rebuilding the space.

Multimedia Room — $15,000–$30,000
A larger display or projector, architectural speakers, stronger amplification, lighting control and integrated operation can turn a bonus room or finished lower level into a space for movies, sports, gaming and everyday television.

Dedicated Home Theater — $40,000–$100,000+
A true private cinema brings the entire room into the design: projection, surround and overhead audio, acoustic treatment, fixed seating, lighting, control and the construction required to make everything work together.

Total Home has been designing these kinds of spaces for decades, from flexible entertainment rooms to dedicated theaters where picture, sound, seating and lighting are engineered as one experience.

How a Theater Comes Together

Home Theater Questions

Do I need a dedicated room, or can a family room work?
A family room or finished lower level can work very well. A dedicated theater gives more control over light, acoustics and speaker placement, while a shared room stays useful throughout the day. The better choice depends on the house and how your family actually watches.

Is a projector or a large TV the better choice?
It depends on the image size you want, the seating distance and how much daylight enters the room. Projection makes sense when you want a very large image and can control the light. A large display is often easier in a bright room used for several purposes.

What affects the cost of a home theater?

Room construction, picture size, speaker count, seating, acoustics, lighting, shades and control all affect the final scope. A renovation with finished walls also differs from a room planned before construction. Total Home quotes the project after understanding the room rather than forcing it into a generic package.

Can Total Home fix or upgrade a theater another company installed?

Yes. The existing equipment, wiring and programming are reviewed before anything is replaced. Components that still perform can remain, while upgrades focus on the parts actually limiting the room.

When should Total Home get involved in new construction or a major renovation?
As early as possible. Speaker locations, wiring paths, screen position, ventilation, equipment space, lighting and shade planning are easier to solve before the walls close.

How many speakers does a home theater need?

There is no useful number without seeing the room. Seating positions, room dimensions and the level of immersion you want determine the layout. The goal is not more speakers. It is the right coverage from every seat.

Can the theater lights and shades work from the same control?

Yes. Lighting, motorized shades, picture and sound can be tied into a Control4 or Savant scene so the room changes with one command instead of a sequence of separate remotes and switches.

Bring Us the Room You Have in Mind

It might be an empty lower level, a family room that should do more, a theater that came with the house, or a room still on the architect's drawings. The first step is simply understanding how you want to use it.
