Technology Designed for the Way You Live Outside
Outdoor home entertainment in New Jersey has to earn its place against humid Julys, freeze-and-thaw winters and a short season that everyone wants to stretch. Total Home Technologies, based in Roseland since 1992, plans backyard audio, video, shading, networking and lighting for families across Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Sussex Counties, and ties it to the same control used inside, with Sonos music, SunBrite outdoor TVs and Control4 or Savant running it all.
Most backyards grow one gadget at a time: a TV on the porch, a pair of speakers aimed at the pool, a string of lights, an extender that sort of reaches the patio. Each works on its own and none work together. The better approach treats the patio, pergola, pool deck and lawn as one space, with every piece chosen for its spot and its exposure.
This page is the overview. Each outdoor category below has its own page with more detail.

Service, Repairs & System Upgrades Across New Jersey
Weather, moisture, temperature swings and seasonal wear can affect exterior televisions, speakers, network connections and control systems. Total Home Technologies services systems we installed and can take over equipment installed by another company, beginning with a careful evaluation of the wiring, network, programming and individual components. We identify the source of the problem, explain what is still working and recommend focused repairs, updates or replacements whenever possible, restoring reliable performance without rebuilding more than necessary.
Outdoor Problems Worth a Call
✓ An outdoor TV that loses signal, washes out in sun or ignores the remote
✓ Speaker zones that crackle, sound uneven or cut out
✓ Wi-Fi that fades past the patio or never reaches the pool house
✓ Exterior shades or lights that stopped following their schedule
✓ Corroded connections or wiring damaged by weather or landscaping
✓ Separate apps for every outdoor device
Total Home runs a 24/7 Help Desk and offers 24/7 service plans with phone support, and service-plan customers receive priority onsite service. The Help Desk is in-house and works with OneVision Resources. More detail is on the support page.

Why Families Invest in Outdoor Entertainment
A well-planned backyard gets used far more often, and for far more of the year.
A Longer Outdoor Season
Shade for hot afternoons, light after dark and heat-friendly equipment choices let the patio stay useful from the first warm weekend in April deep into a mild October evening.
Hosting Without the Fuss
Music at the right level by the grill, the game on a screen everyone can see and lights that come on by themselves let you spend the evening with guests, not with the remotes.
Equipment That Stays Out of Sight
Speakers tuck into planting beds, wiring runs underground and screens are placed with sightlines in mind, so the yard keeps its look and the equipment does not draw attention.
One Button for Everything
A single scene can lower the shades, start the music, turn on the TV and set the path lights, run from the same keypad, remote or app that already controls the interior rooms.
Technology That Works Naturally Outside
Exterior systems have to perform through changing sunlight, open spaces, moisture and New Jersey’s seasonal temperature swings. Total Home Technologies plans every part of the property together, making sure the sound, video, shading, lighting, network and control system work reliably without distracting from the home or landscape.

Outdoor Audio Systems
Clear sound across a backyard does not come from placing one loud speaker near the house. We use multiple weather-resistant speakers positioned around patios, pools, gardens and dining areas to create even coverage at comfortable volume levels. Sonos provides familiar music access and control, while Bowers & Wilkins and purpose-built landscape speakers deliver clear sound without competing with the property.
✓ Sonos music streaming and everyday control
✓ Bowers & Wilkins architectural speaker options
✓ Discreet landscape speakers and subwoofers
✓ Independent zones for different gathering areas
Weather-Resistant Televisions
Sun exposure, glare, viewing distance and protection from the elements all affect which display belongs in a particular location. Samsung Terrace and SunBriteTV offer weather-resistant models for covered, partially exposed and brighter areas. We coordinate the display, mounting, streaming sources and sound so the finished installation looks intentional and remains easy to operate.
✓ Samsung Terrace outdoor television options
✓ SunBriteTV models for varying sun exposure
✓ Secure wall and architectural mounting
✓ Integrated sound and streaming sources

Motorized Outdoor Shades & Screens
Covered patios and porches can become uncomfortable when afternoon sun, glare, heat or insects move into the space. Motorized solutions from Lutron and QMotion provide protection when it is needed and retract when conditions improve, preserving the view and open-air feeling that made the area appealing in the first place.
✓ Lutron and QMotion motorized solutions
✓ Solar fabrics for heat and glare control
✓ Insect screens for covered living areas
✓ Keypad, schedule and scene integration
Landscape Lighting
Layered lighting helps people move safely between the house, patio, pool and surrounding landscape while giving the property a comfortable atmosphere after sunset. Lutron lighting control can coordinate path lights, architectural fixtures and landscape illumination, while Control4 brings those settings into the same scenes used for music, television and entertaining.
✓ Lutron lighting control and scheduling
✓ Path and step lighting for safer movement
✓ Architectural and landscape illumination
✓ Integration with Control4 outdoor scenes

Wi-Fi Across the Property
Streaming through Sonos, watching a Samsung or SunBriteTV display and using a Control4 or Savant interface all depend on reliable coverage beyond the walls of the house. Professional network infrastructure and weather-rated access points extend stable service across patios, pools, gardens, detached structures and other exterior areas.
✓ Coverage for patios, pools and gardens
✓ Weather-rated wireless access points
✓ Reliable music and television streaming
✓ Connectivity for control and surveillance systems
One-Touch Outdoor Control
Control4 and Savant can bring music, television, shades, lighting, pool features and other connected equipment together through one familiar interface. A single scene can prepare the property for dinner, start music around the pool or close everything down at the end of the evening without requiring several apps or repeated adjustments.
✓ Control4 and Savant system integration
✓ Scenes for dining, entertaining and relaxing
✓ Keypad, remote and mobile-device control
✓ Coordination with systems inside the home

Trusted Brands for Outdoor Living
We choose equipment for the way it will perform in each setting, not simply because the name is familiar. Every component must be suited to the conditions outside, integrate cleanly with the technology inside the home and remain straightforward to operate and support as the system evolves.
Control4 brings outdoor television, music, lighting and shades together through one familiar remote, keypad or mobile app.
Lutron coordinates landscape lighting and motorized shades with schedules and scenes that respond naturally throughout the day.
Samsung outdoor televisions provide a bright, clear picture in covered and partially exposed spaces with integrated control.

How a Backyard Project Comes Together
Discovery
We walk the property with you to see where people gather, where the sun lands during the day, what the landscaper and pool builder have planned and which parts are in use now.
Design
You review one plan that places speakers, screens, shades, access points and fixtures together, with conduit paths and equipment spots agreed before any digging gets underway.
Installation & Programming
Equipment is rack-tested in our shop, then installed with care for stone, plantings and finished surfaces. Scenes are programmed and tested outside in daylight and after dark.
Support
Outdoor gear stays documented and supported year to year. The Help Desk is a phone call away, and service plan customers get priority when a technician needs to come back out.
Why Total Home for Outdoor Living
Planning Before Anything Goes in the Ground
Keith W. Harrison founded Total Home on January 2, 1992, and the company has spent more than three decades fitting technology into New Jersey houses. That engineering background shows up outside as planning first: conduit sleeved under hardscape before the patio is poured, equipment rated for the exposure, and racks built and tested in the shop before anything goes in the ground.
One Team for the Whole Yard
The biggest advantage on a backyard project is having one team responsible for audio, video, shades, network and lighting. When the landscaper, pool builder and electrician each have questions, there is a single point of contact instead of five separate vendors.
Recognized by the Industry
The Roseland showroom is a Control4 Certified Showroom, and Total Home is listed among the CE Pro Top 100 Dealers.

Outdoor Entertainment Questions
Do we have to do the whole backyard at once?
No. Many families start with audio or a TV and add shades or lighting later. Planning conduit and power up front makes each later phase easier and cheaper to add.
When should we bring you into a backyard renovation?
Before the patio, pool deck or plantings go in. Conduit is simple to lay in an open trench and costly to add under finished stone.
Will outdoor equipment survive a New Jersey winter?
Weather-rated speakers, displays and access points are built for outdoor exposure. Placement, mounting and protected wiring matter as much as the product itself.
Can the backyard run on the same app as the house?
Yes. With Control4 or Savant, outdoor TVs, music, shades and lights join the same app, keypads and remotes used indoors.
Can you fix an outdoor setup another company installed?
Yes. Equipment is tested, what still works is kept, and failing pieces are replaced or brought onto one control.
Which areas do you cover for backyard projects?
Total Home plans and supports backyard projects across Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Sussex Counties from its Roseland base.
