Smart Locks & Video Doorbells NJ

See who is at the door, let the right people in from anywhere, and stop wondering whether a door was left unlocked.

Who Is at the Door, and Who Gets In

Smart locks and video doorbells answer two everyday questions: who is at the door right now, and who should be able to open it. Total Home Technologies, a Roseland firm working across Northern New Jersey since 1992, installs video doorbells, door stations and smart locks for homeowners in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, and Sussex Counties, with Ring at the door and Control4 or Savant where a household wants it all on one app. This page covers doors and entry; the wider plan is on the home security systems page.

The point is a front door that is easy to live with: you see a visitor before you answer, hand out codes instead of hiding keys, and know the door locked itself at night.

When Door Gear Starts Letting You Down

Door hardware takes daily abuse, so trouble is common. A doorbell lags before it rings, a smart lock drains batteries in weeks, codes stop working, or the app that runs everything is tied to the installer who set it up. Door stations at a gate no longer reach the house, and a lock bought online never talked to the rest of the system.

Total Home runs a 24/7 Help Desk and offers 24/7 service plans with phone support, and service-plan customers receive priority onsite service. The Help Desk is in-house and works with OneVision Resources. More detail is on the support page.

Total Home checks the locks, doorbells, door stations and the network behind them, including gear another company installed. Hardware that still works is kept, batteries and settings are sorted out, and only what has failed is replaced.

What Smart Entry Adds

Smart locks and doorbells are small changes that take a daily annoyance off your plate.

See Who Is at the Door

A video doorbell or door station shows who is on the step and lets you speak with them from the kitchen, the office or another state, before anyone opens the door at all here.

Let People In From Anywhere

Unlock the side door for a dog walker or buzz in a contractor from your phone, hand housekeepers their own codes, then see on camera that the door relocked once they had left.

Doors That Lock Themselves

A goodnight or an away routine locks every door at once, so no one walks the house checking, and the family stops wondering whether the side door was left wide open overnight.

A Record of Who Came and Went

Smart locks can log when a door was opened and by what code, so you know the cleaner arrived on time or the kids got home safe, without standing watch over the front doorstep.

Smart Locks and Video Doorbell Services

Most door projects combine several of the pieces below, planned so they share one app and one team to call.

Video Doorbells

A video doorbell suits most front doors, showing a caller and offering two-way talk to phones and touchscreens, so you can answer from anywhere in the house or well beyond it.

Door Stations for Larger Entries

Bigger houses and gated properties often call for a door station with a sharper camera and sturdier build, ringing through to phones, touchscreens or both, and pairing with a gate where there is one.

Smart Locks and Entry Codes

Smart locks let you issue codes to family, housekeepers and contractors, see when a door was opened, and lock up from anywhere. Codes can be scheduled and removed when a job ends.

Access Across Several Doors

For properties that want several doors managed together, the right approach is a short talk-through before design, since broader access control is planned to fit the house rather than sold as a package.

Doors on Your Control System

With Control4 or Savant, locks and the door station join the TVs, touchscreens and app the household already uses. The home automation page explains how that control works across the house.

Repairs and Takeovers

A lagging doorbell, a lock eating batteries or an app login held by a former installer is worth a call. Cameras at the door are covered on the security camera installation page.

How a Door Project Comes Together

Discovery

A first visit maps the front door, side and back doors, any gates, and how the family comes and goes, plus which locks or doorbells exist and how far the network reaches each.

Design

You review the doorbell or door station choice, which doors get smart locks, how codes and alerts are shared, and how it all ties to the app or the control system you now use.

Installation & Programming

Locks and doorbells are fitted and paired, codes and alerts are set up, and remote access is tested with everyone who uses it, so any new lock becomes something you can trust.

Support

A lock that stops reporting, a doorbell that drops off or a new phone that needs access is a Help Desk call, and plan clients come first when an onsite visit gets booked here.

Why Total Home for Smart Entry

Chosen to Work Together

Locks, doorbells and door stations are picked to work with each other and with the control system, so entry is one coordinated thing rather than three apps that each guard a different door.

Set Up to Be Trusted

Codes, alerts and access are configured and tested with the household, because a lock or doorbell that no one trusts quickly stops getting used and the keys come back out.

What Our Clients Say

Smart Locks and Video Doorbell Questions

Do smart locks work if the internet goes down?
The lock still works by code or key during an outage. Remote features such as app control and alerts return once the connection is back.

Will a smart lock fit my existing door?

Most standard doors take a smart lock. The door and existing hardware are checked during the visit, and options are suggested where a door needs a different style.

Can I give out temporary codes?

Yes. Codes can be created for family, housekeepers or contractors, scheduled to certain days or hours, and removed when the job is done.

Does a video doorbell replace a security camera?
No. A doorbell watches the front step, while security cameras cover the driveway, yard and other doors. They are planned together on the security pages.

Can you take over locks or doorbells someone else installed?

Often, yes. The hardware and network are checked, what still works is kept, and app access is moved to you.
